Beasts at Church, by Jezebel Rose
I walked into church alongside everyone else. It was a rush as people found their seating and began to talk amongst each other. The church itself was old, but it still held strong as nearly three hundred people filled the seats.
Being the quiet, shy girl I was, I sat near the back. Church wasn’t my thing, but I went to appease my boyfriend, who wasn’t even here for this service. Still, I continued to be the good girlfriend I was and went.
As I looked over the handouts, I smiled to myself, realizing today would include a pagan ritual not often seen in the states. It made me curious as time went on, listening to the songs and the Priest speak.
Finally, it was time for the ritual. The Priest turned down the lights, allowing only the candles to give off light down the aisles and what appeared to be a pentagram in the center of the stage.
I felt a chill run up my spine for no reason at all. The Priest spoke out, “Who feels the calling? I need a volunteer.”
