Mrs Giantess, by Jezebel Rose
‘Do not come to the office, Kat. Do not ruin my Monday—’
Franklin looked at the stall next to his and listened in.
‘I don’t care if you think that’s insensitive, you’ve been like this ever since we moved to the new house. Look, I know it’s a little smaller, but—’
Franklin ran his fingers along the bridge of his nose. This was Geoff’s routine, he’d been arguing down the phone with his girlfriend of four years for weeks now. Franklin knew the whole story off by heart; she was upset because she felt claustrophobic in the new house; Geoff insisted they couldn’t afford a bigger space, hence why they’d downsized in the first place.
‘You are not going to ‘tear the roof off.’ Don’t be ridiculous, Kat. — Kat… Seriously? Just calm down—’
Franklin leaned around the edge of his stall.
‘Hey, Geoff, think you can take this conversation elsewhere? Only I’m trying to get some work done.’
Geoff looked at him, his face red and sweating with anger and general annoyance. His expression made it look as though he was ready to throw the phone across the office. Other heads were peeking over their stalls now, eager to get a load of the action.
‘She’s deranged, Franklin,’’ hissed Geoff, covering up the receiver. ’Says she’s going to come to the office and ‘tear the whole place apart,’ what am I supposed to do?’
‘You live halfway across town. How’s she going to get here before our shift ends?’ Franklin laughed, ‘We’ve only got twenty minutes left, relax.’
Geoff scowled at him like a bulldog and put the phone back against his ear. Franklin jumped when he slammed it back into the cradle only seconds after, shattering the plastic.
‘She hung up on me!’ exclaimed Geoff in disbelief.
‘Thank God,’ muttered Franklin, turning around and returning to his spreadsheets.
Before Franklin had a chance to even finish the next sum, Geoff gasped and called out in a high-pitched tone, as if he’d witnessed something terrible. Franklin sighed exasperatedly.
‘What now? … Realized how much overtime you’ll be clocking tonight? — … Holy shit.’’
A gigantic, mascara-lined eye filled the office window. The people reflected in it were gasping in shock, standing up and fleeing from their stalls. Franklin felt Geoff rush past him, screaming.
Heart thumping in his chest, Franklin scrambled out of his chair and tripped on Geoff’s jacket, which must have fallen on the floor amidst the chaos.
He hit the floor and heard his shoulder crack painfully.
Arching in pain and seeing red, Franklin grabbed his shoulder and let out a gasp of agony. The windows of the office shattered and the whole building seemed to lean a little to one side.
An enormous finger came towards him and touched his chest; Franklin froze, forgetting about the pain in his shoulder, too engrossed in what was happening to feel it.
Attractive glossy red nail polish glinted before his eyes. The tip of the finger soothingly stroked his chest, but also pressed his weight into the office floor to such a point that he felt as though he was being crushed; Franklin realised if the finger did not let him go, he would remain pinned there forever beneath its nurturing touch.
‘’Are you all right…?’’ A dulcet voice called. It reverberated from outside the office window and shook pots off their desks and sent pencils across the floor.
‘’Y-Yes…?’’ croaked Franklin, looking very confused as a pencil struck him in the head.
‘’Good. Now — Where’s Geoff?’’ the voice asked; the finger squeezed him harder, making his belly feel funny.
‘’Outside—! I g-guess he went down the e-elevator!’’ gasped Franklin.
‘’… GEOFF! GET BACK HERE, NOW!’’
The office window flashed with the fine almond tints of a woman’s well-cared for hair, along with a pair of very bronze-looking shoulders.
Franklin scrambled back in awe to get a better view; and saw the image of a giantess walking away. He rubbed his eyes and saw, for a second time, her great image.
‘’There’s a sixty foot woman outside,’’ Franklin told himself as he got up and pursued his colleagues to the elevator, his feet failing him a little.
‘’She’s sixty foot tall and thirty feet wide and pinned me to the floor with her giant finger…’’
Franklin fell into the elevator as it dinged; he led against the back wall and took a breath.
On the wall across from him Franklin saw an old movie poster, which read ‘Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman!’ — It showed a blonde Goddess in a skintight dress pulling apart skyscrapers, wreaking havoc across New York City.
Franklin uncertainly reached for the elevator button.
Suddenly, a sound like cables being snapped and rubble being pulled apart by a dump truck filled the elevator. The metal box tilted and Franklin slid against the opposite wall in a panic. He struggled to right himself and found his feet in a position that upset his stomach: he was now standing upon the poster of the Fifty Foot Woman, which meant the elevator was being—
‘’GEOFF!?’’ came a voice from beyond the elevator’s double doors. Franklin hung onto the guard rail as the elevator tipped around. He felt like a mouse in a matchbox!
‘’He’s not in here!’’ Franklin screamed, pinning his feet to what had been the ceiling in an attempt to steady himself.
The elevator doors separated at the request of a polished red thumb. A good-looking, feminine face peered in, then retreated to stuff her hand inside instead.
