Quarantine, by Jezebel Rose
John took one last glance at the television before shutting the door. The screen scrolled with the latest news. COVID-19 SPREADING ACROSS AMERICA
He could remember the reporter saying that everyone should stay home. Each person should do their part to make this pandemic quickly become over. John saw it as an opportunity. The barely legal teens weren’t at school – they were at home.
John had been watching two twin sisters just down the road from him. Three houses down, to be exact. He could see them through binoculars back when they were going to school. Now, they were at home. He knew the parents were home, but he had a plan.
Holding onto his backpack, he walked down the front of his lawn dressed in black. It was nearly midnight, and the moon was covered. Being so dark, John knew he wouldn’t be seen. As he approached the small home, he unzipped his backpack and pulled out a pair of thieves tools he picked up online for a few bucks.
His hands went to work on the side door of the house. In the dark, it was difficult to unlock the door – but he managed it with a barely audible, “click.” The door silently moved open.
John walked into the dark kitchen. He knew the house well. When the family left, he had the chance to go inside and set up cameras, go through mail and even pick up a few pair of panties from his lovebirds. Smirking to himself, he closed the door behind him and locked it.
